Capture Your Craft

Portrait Photography for Creatives

Your image…

stands front and center in sharing who you are and what you do. The first impression it creates can be priceless.

In the Internet and social media world, with Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter, your face needs to be front and center and will play a large role in portraying your personality and approachability. These images will be seen over and over, and in a variety of ways as you work to expand your business and client list, so they need to be good.

I have over a decade of experience as a New York portrait and headshot photographer, working with large and small businesses and clients of all types. Please feel free to contact me directly to explain your needs, and I will be happy to create a plan and send you a quote. If you are located outside New York, I can travel.

Where You Spend Time

Portraiture on Location

One of my favorite ways to photograph creatives is to go to them. If you have a photogenic studio or apartment that shows off your work or workspace, this can be an ideal location to do a session.

I use a portable lighting system that is ideal for working in small spaces.

For All Businesses Types and Purposes

I create portraits for actors, writers, dancers, musicians, DJs, models, and many other artistic pursuits.

No matter what your needs are, I would be excited to work together to create a plan for what you are looking to have done.

Variety of Backgrounds

I know a variety of beautiful and interesting New York neighborhoods inside and out. While paper and textured backgrounds are always fun to use, the streets of New York have textures and colors that can’t be recreated, and are a perfect way to backup a bold creative.

The East Village, Lower East Side, SoHo, and elements of Chinatown are my favorite suggestions for creatives, but depending on your purpose, I also know Central Park, Midtown, and other areas very well.

Be Yourself

Natural and Comfortable Portraits

As the son of two New York psychiatrists, I always grew up saying I would never become one myself. Yet it was quite a shock one day when I realized how portraiture has a few eerie similarities.

I pride myself in being able to get to know my subjects quickly, and to foster the right environment to be able to capture them naturally.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that a session wasn’t quite as bad as going to the dentist. From the section of people who hate having their portraits taken, this is the best compliment I can possibly hear.

Retouching

My retouching style is to clean up faces and photos without having the photo feel like they were retouched. I want people to look their best but still look like themselves.

It’s a subtle but detailed style of retouching that I originally learned from commercial retouchers and have refined over the years. (Although I do have the ability to do more extreme changes whenever needed).

Here are examples of a few before and after photos of my work.
